Night

Nighttime comes once again
Tiptoeing its way in
The darkness closes in on every breath
The peace from today
In silence, slips away
Leaving me with calm's complete death
My heart starts to pound
I can't find solid ground
As rain washes my perch far away
I long for the strength
To hold fast to my faith
When stormy nights overtake the days
I know what looms ahead
Not hope, but fear instead
Overwhelming every nerve in me
If only I could pray
And hear my Lord say
"Rest, My child; I give you sweet relief"
Then black would turn to light
Illuminate this night
Glory be to God, now and always!
No more heartbeat out my chest
I'd recapture my breath
And use it daily, offering God praise!
